SCULPTURE

ABOUT THE SCULPTURE

Eve turned to sculpture during a residency in Berlin. Her sculpture is driven by physicality and investigates human awareness of and interaction with the natural word. In her process she imagines that the natural word is gone, except for the bit of landscape caught at the edge of her body – perched on her shoulder, caught between her arms, or stuck in the arch of her foot. She uses gypsum to trace her body’s gestures, which are an attempt to bring back a fuller environment, calling upon shelters and boundaries of the human body. She chose to use both paper and metal because of their ability to record the intricate effects of wear and tear on the cultural and natural fabric of our contemporary world, namely urban and natural environments. Many of her sculptures incorporate handmade paper. During her paper-making process she sets up conditions that mirror natural forces, to call to this natural wear and tear on environmental landscapes.
